Each year, Pantone delights and outrages designers everywhere with its announcement of the official Pantone Color of the Year, which then guides many trends for the coming 12 months. Every color of the year is chosen to represent changing emotions, attitudes, and challenges society faces at the time.
In 2016, Pantone had a particularly big surprise in store, with its unprecedented decision to crown not a single color of the year, but give the top honor to a blend of two shades we don't often see mixed in the Western world – baby blue Serenity and light pink Rose Quartz. To commemorate this momentous occasion in design history, we have created a special review of all Colors Of The Year since 2000.
And seeing as no color can be fully appreciated without context, we have also picked our favorite logos which apply these colors in their design, crowdsourced from within our creative vaults. These examples showcase the true range of applications a well-chosen color can have, creating impressions from the serious to the quirky, and soft to outrageous.
